How To Determine A Weight Distribution System For A Forest River Heritage Glen TT

Question:

I recently bought a forest river Heritage Glen travel trailer. It’s almost 40 ft with a hitch weight of 1150 and a Uvw of 8600. I am towing with a f250 diesel. I was convinced buy the sales person that the 1000lb R3 recurve weight distribution/sway control hitch would work perfect. When towing the truck still has sway. Is this because the hitch is too small? And if so what sway/weight distribution hitch would you recommend? Thanks

The sales person is partially right because they sold you a system that has a maximum tongue weight of 1,000lbs, and, what you need is a weight distribution system like the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37140ET which has a maximum tongue weight capacity of 1,000-1,400lbs. Since you mentioned that your tongue weight is 1,150lbs, and the system the salesperson sold you is rated for 1,000bs, that would explain why you still have sway.

The key to finding the correct weight distribution system is determining what your trailers fully loaded, ready to roll tongue weight is. You can use a tongue weight scale like the etrailer Trailer Tongue Weight Scale # e99044 to find your trailers total tongue weight.
