Can I Mount 2 Hullavators # TH898 on My 2010 Dodge Caravan with Raised Rails?
Question:
Is it possible to put two Thule Hullavator systems on a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan? The van has factory mounted rails, but no crossbars yet.

Technically, you can install 2 Thule Hullavators # TH898 on the raised rails of your 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan. However, the crossbars you need on your raised rails need to have at least 4 inches of overhang past the feet on each end in order for the Hullavators to function properly. With this factor, you will have pretty long crossbars on your roof. It is important to make sure that the crossbar length does not extend past the mirrors. I recommend measuring your roof from mirror to mirror to make sure that the crossbars are within those limits. Extending crossbars past the mirrors are not only illegal in some municipalities, but also dangerous.
Another thing to keep in mind is the weight of the Hullavators. 2 Hullavators weigh a total of 79.4 pounds. Along with this weight, you must factor in the weight of your kayaks in order to get the total weight. This weight must not exceed the weight of either the roof rack or your vehicle's roof rating itself. I recommend consulting with your owner's manual to make sure your roof can accommodate that much weight.
For a compatible roof rack system that will give you the minimum crossbars length of 57 inches for both hullavators, I recommend the following:
- Yakima JetStream Crossbars - Aluminum - Black - 60" Long # Y00426
- Yakima TimberLine Towers # Y33TR
- Yakima Same-Key Locks # Y07204
With this setup, you receive a maximum roof rack weight capacity of 165 pounds. One additional measurement you need to conduct is the required 4 inches on each side past the feet. If you measure from left rail to right rail and that measurement does not exceed 52" long, you are good to go. If, by chance, it does exceed 52 inches long, you need the longer 70" JetStream Crossbars # Y00427.
