Bike Rack Solution for Mounting Bikes on an Accessory Tray on My Travel Trailer

Question:

I love this trailer tray # CC-255, and I bought the Bike Rack Adapter Item # CC-125 to go on it. My fault the tray is 6inch too short! I found posts on RV forums suggesting mounting a tray-style bike rack to the Trailer Tray, but they dont say which one. Do you have any suggestions for one that might work with a minimum of modding? Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words. You are definitely correct that the Jack-It 2 Bike Rack for A-Frame Trailers - 22-1/2" Jack Clearance # LC429756 requires you to remove the tray in order to install it on your 2017 Casita A-frame travel trailer.

If you want to keep the tray installed, I have a creative solution. Depending on the length of the tray, I recommend using the Bike Rack Adapter for Stromberg Carlson Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier # CC-125. Since it looks like you have a solid tray with no mesh underneath, you most likely need to drill/bolt the wheel carriers to the tray itself. If you happen to have a mesh surface, there will be a bit more fabrication that is involved since the bolts that come with the # CC-125 are specifically designed for Stromberg Carlson mesh cargo carriers. It is important to note that this adapter only fits bike tires up to 2-1/4" wide. This adapter also comes with straps to secure your bikes.

Also, it is crucial to make sure that your cargo tray has enough weight capacity to support your bikes.

I went ahead and attached a demo video that shows how the adapter works.

While I do not know exactly what bike-tray mounted rack you found on the forums, the best space-saving option we have is a universal fork-mount bike rack like the Swagman Impakt Bike Rack - Fork Mount - Bolt On - 9 mm Quick-Release and 12 or 15 mm Thru-Axle Forks # S62FR. Since you have to remove the front tire in order to mount the forks of your bikes, you save space. The space that you save is the radius of the front tire (halfway across the wheel). I recommend factoring in this measurement when applying it to the # CC-255. The # S62FR comes with included installation hardware. If you happen to have bikes with 20mm thru-axle forks, you need the adapter # S64715.
