Replacement Bunk Carpet, Winch, and Transom Tie Down for Boat Trailer
Question:
Im looking to replace everything on my trailer from the bunk carpet the winch and the transom tie downs and just need some expert advice. The boat is 21ft and weighs 4,000lbs. The trailer is a tandem axel trailer and weighs about 1,200lbs. What size winch and strap should I use and what size and strength transom tie downs should I look at? Thank you in advance!

For a winch you will need to choose the right one based on the weight of your boat and the trailer setup. A common ratio for determining your winch load capacity is 2:1.
For example, a 2,200-lb boat generally requires a 1,100-lb winch. If the same boat were winched a short distance with a low incline and with rollers in good condition, it can be safely winched with a 900-lb winch. The boat requires a winch with a 2,200-lb capacity if you are winching a longer distance with more resistance; for example, if the trailer had carpeted, wooden bunks or was set on a steeper incline.
You will have to determine what is appropriate for your exact setup. The highest capacity hand winch we have is going to be 3,200 lbs like the 2-Speed Boat Trailer Winch with 20' Strap and Brake - 3,200 lbs # 315-W3200D.
For the transom straps, I recommend the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Transom Tie-Down Straps # IMF08893. These heavy-duty ratchet straps will secure the stern of your boat to the trailer. They are simple to hook up and permanently mount to your trailer. These straps have a break strength of 2,500 lbs and safe working load limit of 833 lbs per strap. These are retractable with a 2" wide x 43" long strap.
I have attached some review videos along with a link to all of our bunk carpet that you can check out. I also included a helpful article on trailer winches that goes into further detail about how to choose the correct capacity depending on various factors for your reference.
