B And W Hitch For Short Bed 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500
Question:
So I have been having a hard time choosing what hitch I need. I recently purchased a new 2020 Columbus Compass 297RKC. I also just purchased a new 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD Crew Cab w/standard bed. I have called several hitch manufacturers, dealerships, dealers, and Im getting mixed results. Some are telling me that I need the slider because I do not have the 8foot box on my truck. On the other hand, Im being told I do not need one because Chevy made the boxes longer, puck system is offset about 3inch behind axle, newer campers have the rounded fronts, king pin isnt under the cap but sticks out some, and people have had issues with the pin box hitting the tailgate when you engage the slider. Probably have talked to 25 different people and get different answers would say most say I dont need one. Ill purchase what I need but dont want to spend the extra money and have more weight for a slider if I do not need it. My camper is 101inch 8foot 4 wide. Any help would be appreciated

Thanks for reaching out. I looked at your model of RV. It does have the curved nose, that will help with clearance but it will not solve the clearance problem. I highly recommend using a sliding hitch in this case.
B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package - Dual Jaw - 20K # BWRVK3775.
This will give you 12 inches of extra room you need to be more comfortable while making tight and sharp turns while towing.
With any bed under 8 feet long I recommend using a sliding hitch or rotating pin box. All it takes is one turn that is just a couple inches to sharp and you will have a repair bill you didn't want to have.
Lastly I'll recommend a simple lube plate. I really favor these because they are just clean. They will also last about 6-8 months depending on how you drive and how often.
Lube Plate for Elite Series and Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches - 12" Diameter # RP83001.
