Brake controllers are not vehicle specific so this Curt Venturer Brake Controller # C74VV will work with your 2004 GMC 2500 HD.
A couple of things you should know about this controller that may be relevant to your towing requirements are that this controller is to be used only with electric trailer brakes. It will work with electric over hydraulic brakes. Also, this controller is designed for trailers with up to three axles (or six brake assemblies).
I have attached a brief video of this controller as well as the installation instructions. I have also attached two FAQ articles covering how to install brake controllers on GMC pickups and also installing brake controllers from scratch.
