Why Do Ford 2-1/2 inch Hitches Have Fit Issues with Aftermarket Hitch Accessories
Question:
I am having a custom 2-1/2inch hitch build for a new F350. I saw the part about how it wont fit a Ford receiver. Since my hitch is 100 custom, I am freaked a bit all of a sudden. I assumed that these were all standardized and that everything would fit everything. When the truck is done I will take some measurements of the hitch they are putting in there but I was wondering what the problem is that causes it not to work with a Ford factory receiver to give me some idea as to what to worry about?

For whatever reason the Ford 2-1/2 inch receiver hitches have round corners that do not allow most aftermarket hitch accessories to work. Since you said your hitch is 100 percent custom I do not believe this will be a problem for you since this issue is isolated to only Ford hitches.
