Best Slide in Hydraulic Brake Actuators for Disc or Drum Brakes

Question:

My surge brake actuator coupler is broken. Atwood is no longer in service. Is there a like for like replacement? The opening is 3.5in and has to slide in.

Expert Reply:

Yes, I have a couple of brake actuator options to replace your Atwood. These couplers are both the same size and will fit right in to your 3-1/2" coupler opening. Depending on what type of braking system your trailer has you will either need the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator item # DM72VR for drum brakes. Or the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout item # DM62VR for disc brakes.

The Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator item # DM72VR for drum brakes does not have an electric lock out. I recommend adding the Solenoid Valve for Titan Brake Actuators with Reverse Lockouts item # T4748800. This will allow you to back your trailer if you don't have free backing brakes.
