If you do not have the tow package on your 2018 Ford Explorer then there is not factory wiring in place for a plug n play installation. In order to use the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR you would need to have a 7-way connector installed. The only way to get a 7-way on your Explorer is to adapt a 4-way connector into a 7-way.
To install the 7-way, you would first need to install the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118540. This harness plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located beneath the rear of your vehicle, on the passenger's side. You would then use the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 to adapt that 4-way into a functional 7-way that would allow you to use the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR.
