Recommended Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System for 11000 lb Enclosed Traiiler

Question:

My Dodge Ram 3500 currently has a 8 inch fastway down hitch. If that matters? Also how will the weight distribution systems be different when I am fully loaded vs. empty? Obviously the weight will be gone in the trailer and the truck bed? New to all this and trying to make my move as safe as possible. Thanks

You'll want to choose a weight distribution system that's properly rated for the ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer, which includes the weight of anything stowed in the bed of the truck behind the rear axle. The linked article shows a couple of pretty simple ways to determine this, but the etrailer Tongue Weight/Payload Scale, part # e99044 would be the quickest and easiest way.

The Fastway e2 system you'd looked at, part # FA94-00-1033 is rated for trailers with a fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight between 600 and 1000 lbs. The weight distributing shank and trailer ball are sold separately. For a 2 inch ball, use # A-90 or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch ball.

For tongue weighs ranging from 8000-1200 lbs, use # FA92-00-1200. Like the system above, that trailer ball is sold separately but this system includes a weight distributing shank that provides a maximum rise o 5-3/4 inches or a maximum drop of 2-1/4 inches.

If your tongue weight is greater than 1200 lbs, let me know and I can make additional suggestions.

As long as you use a shank with the correct drop, and the tongue weight of your loaded trailer is within the effective range of the system you're using, such as the 600-1000 lb provided by the Fastway # FA94-00-1033, the system will work great for you. When transporting the trailer empty, you can simply leave the system in place or remove the spring bars if the ride becomes a little rough.
