Troubleshooting Blown Tail Light Fuses with a Non-Powered Tail Light Harness on a 1999 Lexus RX300
Question:
I just wired in 4-flat plug with a converter and now I keep blowing tail light fuses. my converter was not a powered converter does that make a difference and why? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like your trailer is overdrawing your tail light circuits and that is why the fuses are getting blown. Having a powered unit does make a big difference for this issue. A powered unit will basically only use the tail light wiring as signal wires and then draws all the power for the trailer tail lights directly from the battery. This protects the delicate tail light wiring and prevents problems like what you are experiencing.
I think your best option at this point would be to install a powered unit so that you would no longer have to deal with the headache of blown tail light fuses. For that I would recommend Hopkins # 46255. This product has been confirmed to fit your vehicle and would be a good choice for you.
