Hitch Recommendation for use on a Fun Finder 21-foot Travel Trailer

Question:

I am looking for a hitch to install on the frame of my 2013 21foot Fun finder bumper pull travel trailer. The plan is to tow a small trailer carrying either a side by side or four wheeler. It will also be used for a dual bike rack or storage rack. What is your recommendation for my Fun Finder?

Tandem towing (towing a trailer with a trailer) is generally not considered a safe practice although we may see this done from time to time. Doing so may be illegal in some states so I urge you to check with your local highway patrol (and those of the states in which you intend to travel) to see if this poses a legal issue.

The Curt Motor Home Trailer Hitch you reviewed, part # 13703, is intended for installation on a motor home or trailer whose frame width is between 22- and 72-inches. Installation instructions are provided for reference.

I also suggest you contact your trailer manufacturer with your VIN number to see if the trailer frame where such an item will attach has the strength necessary to support the tongue weight load of your second trailer. Before doing so you will need to know the actual tongue weight of the second trailer when loaded with your 4 wheeler (or whatever else you might be towing).

If the trailer manufacturer advises that this hitch can be safely installed on your particular Fun Finder, then you can use it for a cargo carrier or hitch-type bike carrier (as long as the bike carrier is the type intended for use on an RV). I have included two links to product pages; one will show you four Swagman fixed-type RV hitch-mount bike carriers, and the other fixed-type cargo carriers.

For both a bike and cargo carrier you need to ensure that the combined weight of the carrier and what you load on it does not exceed the hitch tongue weight capacity. For example, if you select a cargo carrier that weighs 50 lbs, then your 300-lb-rated hitch can handle only 250 lbs of loaded cargo. The same weight consideration applies to bike racks and bikes.
