Above Bed Or Below Bed Hitch Recommendation For A 2020 Ram 3500 6-1/2' Bed
Question:
Hi, I have a 2020 Ram 3500 with the rear air suspension. I do not have the factory puck system installed and am leaning towards buying a large 5th wheel, about 14k pounds, 3k pin weight. My Ram 3500 has the 6 1/2 foot bed so I am wondering which configuration would be the safest and most secure. Do I get the dealer to install the OEM puck system, or should I go with a rail set up?

Both are safe options, but the OEM puck system is definitely the more convenient option because it allows for full bed access and a much quicker installation/removal of the hitch.
We do offer a below bed hitch, the Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWGNRK1320-5W which would give you a gooseneck option as well as be compatible with a Companion 5th wheel hitch like the # BWRVK3400-5W.
Since you have a short bed you will want to use a sliding fifth wheel hitch to ensure you have proper turning clearance.
If you do choose to get the OEM puck system from the dealer then I recommend the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider for Ram Towing Prep Package # BWRVK3670 which will drop right into the pucks.
