Comparing Curt Class III Trailer Hitches for a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport
Question:
What are the differences between the two different curt hitches for the 2013 hyundai santa fe? Part numbers: C13134 and C13152 They both look similar, with one of them having an additional horizontal mounting bolt. The weight capacity of the hitch with additional bolt shows much higher capacity. Is there any obvious benefit to the heavier hitch being that the vehicle is maxed out at 3500#? The heavy hitch also shows less install time, which I assume is probably not the case?

Expert Reply:
Because your 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport (these 2 hitches only fit Sport models) maxes out at 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight there would be no benefit to go to the higher capacity hitch (# C13152). However, hitch # C13152 is rated for use with weight distribution whereas the lower capacity hitch is not.
Even if you do not plan on using weight distribution to tow a trailer what this means is that the hitch that is rated for weight distribution does NOT require the use of a stabilization strap for bike racks or cargo carriers (non-trailer loads). If you used the lower capacity hitch not rated for weight distribution you DO have to use a stabilization strap, # 18050, for use with a bike rack or cargo carrier. That is Curts warranty requirement.
If it were me, I would just go with the higher capacity # C13152 for that reason. I also recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. For trailer wiring use # 118571 if the vehicle did not come with a factory tow package or # C56332 if it does have the tow package.
I have included links to instructions for the hitches and wiring for you.
