Question:
Does your hitch /add receiver affect the tongue weight?

Expert Reply:
When using a Draw-Tite Hitch Extender # HE18 or similar extension you will reduce the maximum tongue weight and maximum trailer weight capacities of your receiver in half. And since the extender has its own weight capacities of 350lbs tongue weight and 3,500lbs trailer weight, you must not exceed those capacities either. This means if your vehicle is rated to pull 10,000lbs and you use the extension your maximum weight is limited to the 3,500lbs of the extension and not the 50%(5,000lbs) of the receiver.
