Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 1995 Nissan Pickup
Question:
Hello, I need some assistance in ing all the parts needed to flat tow my 95 Nissan Pickup 4wd. The towing vehicle is a 02 Ford Class C RV with a 10k rated hitch. I can see Ill need base plate item 317-2 and I like the tow bar item RM-522. However, Im unsure how the tow bar will connect to the base plate and appears I need additional parts? Im also interested in a brake/turn lights wiring kit and it appears item RM-154 will work. Can you confirm? Cheers, Brock

To flat tow a vehicle you need 5 primary items, Base Plates, Tow Bar, Safety Chains/Cables, Supplemental Braking and a Wiring Solution that provides indicator lights on the vehicle in tow to match that of the RV. The Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit, # 317-2 that you identified is a confirmed fit for the 1995 Nissan Pickup and a great choice. This is a crossbar-style base plate and the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar, # RM-522 will fit very well for with these base plates. In addition to the base plates that create the connection point between the tow bar and towed vehicle, you will need safety cables. I suggest the RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables, # RM-643.
For lighting, a simple, inexpensive, and easy solution is to use a magnetic light kit # RM-2120. Or if you want to use the indicator lights on the Nissan itself then select the Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles, # RM-152-98146-7.
For supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the easiest systems to set up and use is the Even Brake proportional system # RM-9400. It will apply the truck brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the easiest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
You may or may may not need a high/low adapter. A tow bar, when connected to the towed vehicle, should be within three inches of level. A high low adapter is used to adjust the connection point of the tow bar to the RV. I have linked a help article below that helps to explain this and how to select the correct component if needed. I have also included some helpful links to other articles in our series of help articles on flat towing.
Be sure to consult your vehicle specific owners manual for listed information on flat towing the vehicle.
