Recommended Hub and Brake Assembly for 2,000 Pound Timbren Axle-Less Suspension System

Question:

I am in the planning process for building a tear camper and I will be building my own chassis. I am not sure how much the trailer will way at this point but I am guessing it will be under 2000 lbs, maybe 1600 lbs. I plan on using a Timbren axle-less suspension and plan to have trailer brakes. I am assuming I can use the 2000 lb capacity Timbren suspension but I am wondering about hubs. I have been looking at the dexter hubs and brakes but not sure what to choose in combination with the Timbren choice. I am thinking I might use car tires, instead of trailer tires not sure if that makes a difference for anything. Could you help with recommendations for hubs and brakes? And anything else I might be forgetting? Thanks

As long as you are not going over the 2,000 lb capacity then the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System # ASR2000S02 will work well. You will need one like this that has the brake flange attached in order to use brakes. For a compatible hub and drum assembly, I recommend the # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K. This uses a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern so you will want wheels that match the bolt pattern.

For brake assemblies, I would choose self adjusting brakes like the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3.5K # 23-468-469. You will also need wiring, a breakaway like the # 20400, and a brake controller like the # RED44FR.

You can use car tires assuming the wheels match the bolt pattern on your hubs. You may want to consider using trailer tires and wheels so you don't have any problems with replacements that match in the future. The # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K will allow for 13-15" wheels.

I have attached some installation videos for your reference. I also included some helpful articles on adding trailer brakes and wiring, along with a link to all of our wheels and tires with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt patter that you can check out.
