Compatible Base Plates For A 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 With A Demco Excali-Bar III Tow Bar
Question:
I recently got a demco excalibar 3 from a buddy of mine that I'm going to use to dinghy tow my 22' Sierra 3/4 ton and was needing to know what base plates will fit my truck?

To tow your 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 with a Demco Excali-Bar III # DM9511013 tow bar you'll want to use Demco base plates to avoid having to purchase an adapter. For this I recommend the Demco Classic Base Plate Kit # DM48FR. These base plates are going to bolt directly to your Sierra's chassis for an easy installation.
To flat tow you'll also need a tow bar wiring kit and braking system. If you haven't already purchased these components then I have the following recommendations.
For the braking system I recommend the Blue Ox Patriot Portable Braking System # BLU37TR. This system provides precise, responsive braking for your Sierra by responding to the deceleration of your RV to activate towed car's brake pedal with matching intensity. It comes with a remote controller with LED display that lets you monitor the braking system from your motorhome.
Since you'll have to disconnect the battery to flat tow your Sierra you'll need to install a 12v outlet # RM-9332 to power the Patriot. You can also install a battery disconnect switch # RM-766 to make disconnecting the battery as easy as flipping a switch.
Since there will be a drain on your battery you can also install a battery charge line kit to keep your Sierra's battery charged while towing. The # RM-156-25 is going to be the wiring for your Sierra and the # RM-156-75 is going to be the wiring for your motorhome, if it doesn't already have a charge line run.
Next you'll need the tow bar wiring kit to send your motorhome's brake and turn signals through to your Sierra's tail lights. For this I recommend the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This diode kit is going to allow you to use your GMC Sierra 2500's tail lights and wiring system while preventing feedback from your RV.
The Excali-Bar comes with safety cables but if they are in need of replacement or do not have them at all then I recommend the Roadmaster 80" Coiled Safety Cables # RM-653. The coiled design of these cables will help prevent the from dragging on the ground and being damaged.
You may also require a high/low adapter to keep your tow bar level between the motorhome and Sierra. This will require some measuring so I've attached our help article to walk you through the process of determining the correct rise/drop for your application.
