Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch For A 2021 Ford F-250 And 16K GVWR Fifth Wheel Trailer

Question:

This is our first fifth wheel RV so we do not have experience with the available hitches. Looking for an inexpensive but functional fifth wheel set up that will install in a 2021 F250 standard bed. Our Fifth Wheel RV has a GVWR of 16000. Thanks

Since your 2021 Ford F-250 Super Duty has a short bed you will either need a sliding 5th wheel hitch or a rotating pin box. Since you're looking for the most cost effective solution your best bet is a sliding fifth wheel hitch.

Having a GVWR of 16K means you're going to need a hitch with 18k capacity at minimum to ensure the safety of you and your trailer. Luckily we have just what you need with the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - Dual Jaw - 18,000lbs # BWRVK3270. The Patriot is the more cost-conscientious model from B&W, but still delivers in quality.

It has 3/4" thick dual jaws provide 360-degree jaw-to-king-pin contact for less rattle and more security than slide-bar jaws. The fully articulating head pivots front-to-back and side-to-side to ease hookup and help to limit chucking. It has 3 height settings to fit your application and keep your trailer level for better ride comfort and the slider function offers 12" of front to back travel for increased turning clearance. This is the most important feature since you have a short bed. You wouldn't want to make a turn and have the nose of your 5th wheel take out the cab of your F-250.

To install this hitch you'll just need the B&W Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWRVK2402. These custom fit brackets will utilize the factory holes in your frame for installation so that you won't have to drill into the frame, which can require expensive tools and consume a lot of time.

B&W is known for their quality and customer support so overall I think you're really going to love the Patriot. I've attached some videos below that will help with installation and let you get a look at the hitch in use.
