How Much Weight is Needed for Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount Shock Absorption to Function

Question:

Using your torsion hitch system, I have read some reviews that if you do not tow enough weight, there is no benefit to using a torsion system. How would I know if the trailer is using the hitch properly and I am not wasting monies on a system that is too large for my towing needs. I thought all towing benefits are to protect the truck as well and cushion the ride giving better quality. I operate a 2021 GMC 2500 HD Diesel and the trailers and weight all differ. Am I into overbought / overrated equipment? I like your product and am concerned that it will fit my needs. Can I buy sway bars for the weight management system as an upgrade after my initial investment. This will be at some point in the future and want to grow as my needs change.

The Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers # 325-GH-1024 requires a minimum of 500 lbs of tongue weight for the built-in shock absorption to function. This ball mount is intended for tongue weights that are 500-1,100 lbs. So you are correct, without enough weight the system will not function as intended. The Gen-Y has a built in scale to help you balance your trailer, which will also indicate if the weight is too little.

If you tow trailers that have a tongue weight in this range and want a more smooth, steady ride, this would be a good choice for you. If none of your trailers have a tongue weight of at least 500 lbs then there would be no need for this ball mount.

Regarding your question about buying sway bars for the weight management system, it sounds like you are talking about a weight distribution hitch. The # 325-GH-1024 is not a weight distribution hitch, or a part of one. This is a shock absorbing ball mount. It is, however, possible to use this ball mount with a weight distribution hitch.

If you wish to add a WDH in the future, you will need to choose one according to tongue weight in order for it to be effective. If you let me know what tongue weights you need one for I would be happy to help you find a system that will best suit your needs.

I have attached a review video, along with a helpful article on weight distribution that you can check out.
