Recommended 4.80-12 Replacement Tires With Higher Speed Rating for Load Rite K1000-2T

Question:

I am looking for replacement tires for my kayak trailer...a loadrite k1000-2t. I plan on traveling long distances...2000 plus per trip and most of it will be highway miles. It currently has the OEM 4.80-12 tire which doesn't have a speed rating so I am assuming it is 65mph. I would like to have at least an M rating. What would you suggest. Also, I have been thinking about changing to a 13 tire just to reduce the RPM of the hubs...do you think that is needed? Thanks

For your Load Rite K1000-2T I recommend the Taskmaster 4.80R12 Radial Trailer Tire # TT48012C. This tire has a load range of C with a maximum capacity of 990 lbs at 90 psi. It is a radial tire, which is what you want for your long distance travel. It also has the higher speed rating of M with a maximum speed of 81 mph.

You're right about your current tires, with nothing listed they are likely rated for 65 mph. As far as 13" tires go, there is really no reason to switch to them. I might suggest it if radial tires with the higher speed rating weren't available for your current tire size, but they are so you don't need to worry about it. Also, 13" tires would be significantly wider and taller. You may not even have enough clearance between the tire and frame, and would probably have to remove the fenders.

I have attached a review video and a helpful article on trailer tires for your reference.
