Flat Towing Equipment Needed To Tow A 2021 Ram 1500 Limited Eco Diesel
Question:
I have a Nighthawk Tow bar setup for another vehicle so I don’t need connection between toad and rv. My question is will I need a brake relay and or different diodes? Vehicle has park sensing and auto parking. Brake lights are active when vehicle is off. Directional lights are separate from brake and tail lights. Do I need a 6 diode system? I will install AirForce 1 brake system DM26VR and Roadmaster direct connect base plate. RM-522203-5

You're correct that the Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar w/ LED Lights - RV Mount - 8K # RM-676 has the 6-way to 7-way adapter cable and the 6-way socket so for lighting purposes all you'll need is the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-152. This diode kit is going to alllow you to use your vehicle's tail lights and wiring system while preventing feedback from your RV.
If the brake lights do not work with the towed vehicle's ignition key turned to the "tow" position, you need a brake light switch kit to provide a signal to the supplemental braking system. You'll want the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400. If both your motorhome and towed vehicle are wired for separate brake and turn signals, you do not need a Brake-Lite Relay.
Since the Demco Air Force One Supplemental Braking System w/ Wireless Coachlink - Air Brakes # DM26VR has a brake monitor to alert you when the brakes are being applied in your towed vehicle you won't need a stop light kit. If you used a different system without a monitor then you would also also need the Roadmaster Universal Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751000 to alert you when the brakes are being applied in your towed vehicle.
The Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM-522203-5 are a great choice for your Ram and will easily connect to your Nighthawk tow bar.
Since the Nighthawk tow bar has safety cables as well you won't need to order additional safety cables. If they are in need of replacement then I recommend the Roadmaster 64" Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables - 8,000lbs # RM-645, which will slide though the cable channels of your tow bar to protect them and prevent them from dragging on the ground.
You may require a high/low adapter to keep your to bar level between your Ram and motorhome. This requires some measuring so I've attached our help guide on determining the correct rise/drop for your needs.
