Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 1988 Suzuki Samurai with a 2004 GMC Sierra

Question:

i am trying to connect a 2004GMC pick-up to a 1988 suzuki sumurai w/ individual turn signal. what would u recommend to make this transition? would tow-ready #118158 work and would this also protect the vehicle? i already have the factory installed 7 pin round connector and a 7 pin round to a 4 pin flat adapter. thanks for your help

You will need a specific wiring set up on the 1988 Suzuki Samurai in order to flat tow it behind your truck. If you want to keep the turn signals separate on the Suzuki then you can use hardwire diode kit with converter # 154-792-118158. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you.

Another option is to just use a magnetic kit like # RM-2120. This unit will plug into the 4-Way adapter end and the lights are independent of the vehicle so you will not have to cut into the vehicle wiring at all.

There are a few other items you will need to flat tow a vehicle. The Suzuki will need base plates like # BX3501 and you will need a tow bar like # BX7322. The base plates provide a secure connection point on the vehicle for the tow bar and both are specifically designed to tow a vehicle behind another vehicle.

You will also need safety chains like # RM-643. The safety chains serve the same purpose as safety chains on a trailer: they are a fail safe should the vehicle become disconnected from your truck.

And finally, most states now require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the best systems you can use is the Patriot # BLU37TR proportional braking system. It will apply the Suzuki brakes in proportion to how much the truck is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
