Recommended Hidden Style Hitch And Wiring For A 2022 Subaru Ascent

Question:

Looking for a hitch and wiring for my 2022 Subaru Ascent. I have a pop up camper that I tow every now and then, but then a small utility trailer a lot more often. They sit at pretty different levels so I am looking at the Rapid Hitch AM3414 since it has 10 inches of drop. It's probably overkill for what I need it for, but I like that its aluminum and American made. What hitch will work with this and still be hidden when not in use? Neither of these trailers have brakes so I just need a 4 prong wiring harness. Thanks in advance.

I will start by saying that the Anderson Rapid Hitch # AM3414, though a little overkill, is definitely a good adjustable ball mount and it will serve your needs well. To get a hitch that will handle this and still be hidden once installed on your 2022 Subaru Ascent, you will want to look at the Curt # C25VR.

This will a bit of a difficult install as it will require taking the back of the vehicle apart and replacing the bumper beam with the hitch, but it will allow you to use the factory access panel on your bumper. This will make it 100% hidden when not in use. It is also very capable and is rated to 5,000 pounds towing and 750 pounds of tongue weight. The vehicle capacities can vary depending on how it was equipped from Subaru, so double check in your owner's manual for exact weight capacities. With this also sitting at 24" when measuring from the ground to the inside top of the receiver, the 10" of drop you will get with the # AM3414 is definitely a good thing.

For the wiring, your best option will be the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118790. This a plug and play harness that will take little to no time to get installed. The Tekonsha brand harnesses also have the longest lifespan of all the brands we carry, so it is highly recommended.
