As long as the trailer hitch on your Volkswagen Beetle is a Class II 1-1/4" receiver the Curt 2 Bike Platform Rack # C18085 will work great for you!

If you find that you a hanging rack, rather than a platform style, I recommend checking out the Kuat Beta # B202-114 which is a hanging bike rack that is compatible with Class I receivers and the max clearance for this one is 7-1/2".
