Hitch Pin Hole to Receiver Tube Stop Measurement of Draw-Tite Class I Receiver # 24880

The stop punched into the receiver tube is 1-5/8 inches rearward from the center of the hitch pin hole or 3-7/8 inches rearward from the front of the receiver tube (see photo). The stop will prevent use of an adapter meant for the higher weight rated Class II receiver.

The Brophy Hitch Adapter we offer, part # HTAD is compatible with Class I receivers and would work with the # 24880. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole in the shank to the end of the shank is 1-1/2 inches.

Keep in mind that using an adapter to convert a 1-1/4 inch receiver to a 2 inch will lower the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. This means that instead of the 200 lb TW capacity of the # 24880, using the adapter will lower it to 100 lbs. This means that the bike rack or other hitch accessory plus the cargo carried upon it could weigh no more than 100 lbs.

Because of the lower tongue weight, and because of the fact that adding another component between the hitch accessory and the receiver tube will also allow for more bounce and movement of the accessory, we typically recommend using a Class I compatible accessory instead of using an adapter.
