Flat Towing Equipment Needed For A 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited
Question:
I plan to Flat Tow my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4X4. I recently ordered the Hopkins Wiring Harness HM56208. This should take care of the tail lighting. I havent seen any install videos that mention the Mopar Wiring Harness #82216418AA. I understand that this powers the electric steering pump while being towed. Do I need to also add the Mopar wiring harness? I havent very much information or mention about this wiring harness. This doesnt make sense to me since the vehicle is being towed. Thank you.

The Mopar kit #82216418AA was designed to maintain power to the electric steering pump to prevent the "Death Wobble" that owners were experiencing while towing their Jeeps. It should specifically say in your owner's manual if you need it but you can also contact you local Mopar dealer with all the specifics of your 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee to confirm the necessity of this kit.
The Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # HM56208 you ordered is not a compatible wiring harness for a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee; it was designed for Jeep Cherokee models.
Instead I recommend the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This diode kit allows you to use your Jeep Grand Cherokee's tail lights and wiring system while preventing feedback from your RV and will come with everything you need.
If you haven't already gotten a tow bar, base plate, braking system, and safety cables then I have the following recommendations for you:
Tow Bar: Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-522. This tow bar features non-binding latches and a large hookup radius to make connecting/disconnecting on any terrain a breeze. This tow bar easily folds up to store on your RV as well.
Base Plate: Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM-521440-5. These direct-connect brackets make connecting to your tow bar fast and simple. The arms are removable to provide a clean look when not in use.
Braking System: Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # HM39524. This braking system offers intense, emergency braking or steady, smooth braking in a single portable system. Easily switch between proportional or full braking using the remote from the comfort of your cab. The included charge line kit will help prevent you from arriving at your destination and then having to deal with a dead battery.
Safety Cables: RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables - 6,000lbs # RM-643. The coiled design of these cables will help prevent them from dragging on the ground and being damaged.
You may also require a high/low adapter to keep your tow bar level while towing your Jeep. This does require some measuring so I've attached our help guide article to walk you through determining the correct rise/drop for your needs.
