Can a Dexter Over-Under Conversion Kit be Used to Lower a Trailer?
Question:
I may have lower my Sportsmen 231rk 5th wheel to get it in the barn. Do you use the same kit to move axle above or below spring? Every description or comment talks about raising trailer instead of lowering. Would you need heavier u-bolts to use axle above leaf springs? I realize I will have to check clearance in wheel wells etc. Love your web site, very informative.

The Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit item # K71-384-00 is used to raise the ride height of trailers. It works by moving the axle from above the leaf springs to underneath the leaf springs. I have attached a picture that will show what a trailer's suspension will look like with an Over-Under Kit installed. You should check beneath your 2020 Sportsmen 231rk 5th wheel trailer to see if it has been raised by an over-under conversion or a suspension lift kit. Those kinds of modifications can be undone to adjust your ride height. Given the tight clearance and wheel capacities required of these trailers there is not much that can be done to lower your factory ride height.
