Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring Where Brake Lights Stop Working When T-Connector is Installed
Question:
T-connector I have had white wire in the connector but another connector I saw has white separate to ground to truck. Why is that because all my lights work on truck and trailer except brake lights. If I unhook t-connector and plug truck lights back in brake lights work on truck. Do I need connector with deprecate white to ground to truck to get my truck and trailer brake lights to work?

For some vehicles the trailer wiring manufacturers will add in an additional ground wire which just adds additional grounding for all of the trailer wiring circuits. We've found that this isn't always needed but if the trailer has a lot of lights it does become helpful. If your truck brake lights and trailer stoplights are not working when the T-connector is installed that would indicate to me that there's a connection issue with the trailer wiring harness and not a ground issue. If it was grounding related the truck would still function regardless of trailer connection.
So you might check to make sure all of the pins of the connectors are seating properly. Sometimes just plugging and unplugging the connectors in a few times is all that's needed as well.
