Can Reese Universal 5th Wheel Base Rails # RP30035 Be Used With Higher-Rated Hitch Head Assembly
Question:
I currently have this rail set in my truck with a 15k slider hitch. We are considering going to a larger trailer. Can I still use these if I change to a bigger hitch or do I also have to change the rails? Thanks.

Base rails themselves are not capacity rated, so you can change out your existing 15K slider hitch for a higher-rated unit.
The Reese Universal 10-Bolt 5th Wheel Base Rail Kit, part # RP30035, works with almost all brands and sizes of industry-standard 5th wheel hitches (the exceptions being Reese Elite/Signature Series, RBW Lil Rocker and Valley UBS hitches). As long as your new hitch is not one of the exceptions noted above it should be fully compatible with your existing Reese base rails.
For example, if you have a Reese square tube slider you can use the Reese 20K Replacement Head, part # 30118. We recommend that you stay with one brand of hitch head and slider to ensure best fit.
You may want to consider the pin box likely to be on your new trailer since some Sidewinder types have limited compatibility with certain brands of hitch head; please refer to the linked article. I have also included a second article concerning 5th wheel installation.
