Will the ETBC7 Provide Reverse Lockout Functionality on 2017 Dodge Durango for Boat Trailer
Question:
I have a 2017 Dodge Durango SXT WITHOUT the Tow package. I have a Class 4 tow hitch, and 4 prong witing harness installed. I have a boat trailer with hydraulic surge brakes, which requires a 5 prong at least connection to activate Reverse lights and de-activate brakes when in reverse. Will the ETBC7 accomplish that? What specific install instructions can you provide? Thanks in advance!

Adding a 7-way connection with the # ETBC7 Universal Installation Kit will provide you with the reverse lockout you need to make sure the brakes do not engage in reverse. Since it sounds like you have a 5-way connection on your boat trailer, you will also need an adapter like the Hopkins Endurance, Flex-Coil Trailer Connector Adapter - 7-Way to 5-Way or 4-Way Flat # HM47075. This would allow you to plug your 5-way connection from the trailer into the 7-way connection on your vehicle.
Another option would be to add a 5-way adapter like the Tow Ready 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter # 20036. I would go this route if you don't think you will ever need a 7-way connection, but the 7-way is nice to have should you need it for towing a different trailer that requires it in the future.
As far as installation goes, I have attached an installation video on a 2007 Dodge Durango you can use as a reference. I have also attached the instruction page for the # ETBC7 along with helpful articles on 7-way and 5-way wiring you can check out.
