Roof Basket Recommendation for Sun Roof on 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser
Question:
Hi guys, is there a recommended dimension to keep from covering up the roof rack on my 08 landcruiser? mega warrior and off grid for example? we are leaning towards a couple of your yakima racks that are wider rather than longer, for this purpose. OR in general, can the basket be installed further back on the roof without issues or additional road noise? thanks!!

I'm guessing you meant to say you were looking for a roof basket that would allow you to still utilize the sun roof on your 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser? From what I could tell it looks like your OEM crossbars will be about 43" apart on center at the max and while there might be a little overhang, we definitely have options that will let you see out most of your sun roof. I do have to put in here as a disclaimer that pretty much every roof rack manufacturer says not to use the sun roof while the roof rack and accessories are installed, but really as long as you have the clearance it shouldn't be an issue (aside from louder noise).
I really like the OffGrid because it looks sleek but offers a bit of variety when it comes to usage due to the accessory bars that come with it. These can act not only as stops for gear inside the basket, but they also act like crossbars on the basket if you ever need to carry a bike rack or kayak carrier on top of the basket. You can either get the 44" long OffGrid # Y07138 or the 62" long OffGrid # Y07138-08 depending on if you'd like to have the flexibility of a longer basket. The 62" option has a removable center section which transforms the basket into the 44" version.
Attached is a review video for you to check out. It's worth noting that while the OffGrid does come with a fairing, since you are adding a solid piece of material on top of your roof the fairing will only be able to do so much to reduce that wind noise/drag, but this is the case with any roof basket.
