Recommended Solution to Fix Sag on 2018 Nissan Armada SE Towing Trailer with Weight Distribution

Question:

I noticed this past weekend that my 2018 Nilsson Armada SE 4WD is riding much lower in the rear and it was more pronounced when I hooked up the trailer. I have a load leveling system and that did improve the pitch of the back of the vehicle. I pull a 21 ft. 2018 Rockwood Minilite 2109. I assume need to take it in but I want to be able to have some idea what is going on! I have a great mechanic is I can give him an idea of the parts I need and what needs to be done.thanks for the help in advance.

There could be a few things at play here, but since you're already using a weight distribution system I think the first thing I would do is check to verify that my tongue weight is not more than 15% of the GVWR of the trailer; it looks like the 2018 Rockwood Mini Lite 2109s has a GVWR of around 5700-lbs, so you'll want to confirm that it's no more than 850-lbs using a tongue weight scale like the # 5780 (850-lbs is the maximum tongue weight for a 2018 Armada). If you're over weight at the tongue then you'll need to reposition heavier items in the trailer towards the back to help take some of the load off. I also recommend checking to make sure that you've got a weight distribution system that is properly rated for this heavy of tongue weight.

With all of that said, you could add a suspension enhancement to your rear coil springs to help beef things up back there and give you some additional help fighting sag. The best option for your 2018 Armada is the Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs - Rear Axle # F4150, which install inside the rear coils to provide additional support when towing and you can deflate the bags without worry when you're not towing so that you don't affect the ride quality when you're not towing. The downside to this is that you'll need to fill up the bags whenever you're getting ready to tow, but there are manual inflation valves included with the # F4150 kit.

If you can verify your tongue weight and the capacity of the weight distribution system you're using, I might be able to direct you towards a better rated system if necessary, but I think the air bags are a nice solution that won't break the bank.

I've linked some review videos of the air bags for you to check out as well.
