Wiring Instructions For Tekonsha ModuLite 119179 On a 2002 Lexus ES 300
Question:
I have always in the past been able to simply attach trailer connector wires to the various car’s back lights. I noticed on my 2002, Lexus es300 there doesn’t seem to be either wire of bulbs connected to ground? This is really throwing me off? I purchased a 119179/11980 Tekonsha circuit protector trailer light power module and know from your information Yellow-left turn, Green-Right turn. Brown-tail, and Red-brake. There were no instructions with the module so can you please tell me... Without a solid ground established on each bulb in the es300 system, Do I just hook up my connections to either end of the bulb that lights? I mean, Will the module operated on Hall Effect, sensing electrical current? I don’t see how that is possible without some type of coil around each wire. It is confusing for when any light is on there seems no reference to vehicle frame ground? So which of the two wires to the bulb do I hook in to? Is there a system to figure out the high and low side since I can’t see it on a volt meter having a reference to vehicle ground? I’m definitely missing something here Is it as easy as just attaching to either wire going to whatever operated bulb? Again, I have a 2002 Lexus es300. The module is a Tekonsha 119179/119180 said to be for this exact car. Oh, There is a label on the red wire in the picture enclosed. Can you please tell me what to do with this red wire if anything? What type of system is in a 2002, es300 Lexus? Is it connected up in any way? Thank you again. Respectfully

I have attached a copy of the instructions for the Tekonsha Upgraded ModuLite Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness # 119179 so that you can have a copy.
We do offer this same item as a Kit # 119179KIT that includes a tester and the required connectors to tap into the wiring on your 2002 Lexus ES 300.
You will need a Test Light # PTW2993 to ensure that you are connecting to the correct power wires on your Lexus tail light harness. One wire will be the positive and the 2nd wire the ground going to each bulb. As we have not had one of your ES 300's in to test fit I can not tell you exactly what color wire does what on your harness.
For the wiring on the ModuLite the yellow wire will connect to the power wire going to the left turn signal, the green wire will connect to the right turn signal power wire, the brown wire will connect to one of the running lights power wires and the small red will connect to the brake light power wire since you do have a 3 wire system on your Lexus. There is a white ground wire with an eyelet that will need to be attached to a good ground source on you Lexus and a larger red wire that will need to connect to the positive terminal on your battery.
