Troubleshooting Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller Installed on 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500HD

Question:

I have a 2002 Chevy,2500HD with Voyager controller. I bought the truck used with the controller already installed. The lights on the controller did work, but havent worked for several years. this was no big deal, because I didnt have a trailer, but now I do. I dont have power at the brake pin on the connector. I tested the controller using a test light grounded to a screw and found I have battery power, stop light power coming in to the Controller. I put the test light on the green wire to the trailer connector and the light came on the controller with varying brightness as I moved the knobs on each side of the controller. So I assume the controller is working. Is it possible, the ground wire coming into the controller isnt properly grounded or should I search somewhere else? Thank you for time and expertise.

It sounds like you have already bench tested the controller, and it sounds like it is getting power and signal from the stoplight switch. Due to the fact that when you applied a load (the test light) to the wiring behind the trailer connector the LED on the brake controller lit up and seemed to work fine, it sounds like the controller is not reading the trailer. This can be caused by a damaged, dirty or broken trailer connector which would certainly prevent the controller from reading the trailer. The fact that you do not seem to be getting any power at the brake output pin on the trailer connector would also seem to confirm this.

If this is the case, simply replacing your trailer connector with the # HM40975 would solve your problem.
