Comparing etrailer Hitch and EcoHitch for 2021 Toyota RAV4

Question:

I was looking at the etrailer e23ZR and EcoHitch EH97FR for my 2021 Toyota RAV4. The EcoHitch looks sturdier and thicker, and I like the idea of the extra towing capacity although I don't know that I would need it. Which one would you recommend?

Both the etrailer Hitch Receiver # e23ZR and the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # EH97FR are Class III hitches with a 2" receiver. Both have a concealed cross tube so the only thing that is visible is the receiver tube once it is installed.

As you mentioned, there is a difference in the towing capacity of these two hitches. The EcoHitch has a maximum gross trailer weight of 5,000 lbs and tongue weight of 750 lbs. The etrailer has a max gross trailer weight of 4,500 lbs and tongue weight of 675 lbs. From what I have found these both exceed the towing capacity of the RAV4 so the capacity difference isn't that important. You will want to check your owner's manual to see what your particular RAV4 is capable of.

If I had to recommend one I would choose the EcoHitch for the appearance and finish., but ultimately it is more of a personal preference. Another thing worth mentioning is that the etrailer can use a weight distribution hitch, the EcoHitch cannot. So if that is something you are wanting the etrailer would be the way to go.

Since it sounds like you plan on doing some towing, I recommend the Curt Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56434 to add a 4-way connection to your vehicle. This wiring harness plugs into existing wiring and will allow you to power your trailer's signal lights. If you also need a ball mount, I recommend the # 989899 ball mount kit which includes a 1-7/8" and 2" ball.

I have attached some installation and review videos for your reference.
