All Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2019 Ford Flex w/ Roadmaster Nighthawk Tow Bar
Question:
Im looking to flat tow my 2019 Ford Flex behind by Jayco Class C E450 and wanted to get a parts list together. These are the components Im looking at and wanted to ensure they were all compatible and made sense and see if there was anything else I needed. Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms Item # RM-524435-5 Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar w/ LED Lights - RV Mount - 8K Item # RM-676 Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System - Proportional Item # SM99251 For wiring I think I want a diode kit and am looking at the Roadmaster kits but wasnt sure which I needed. It seems to me like the tow bar plugs into the RV and then my TOAD plugs into the tow bar. If I go with the Nighthawk which wiring kit is the compatible plug type? Thank you.

Great question, and the parts you listed are all indeed compatible with each other and fit your 2019 Ford Flex. And since the Nighthawk comes with the cord, as well as the wiring socket for your Flex, the only other thing you will need is the diode kit as well as a battery disconnect switch as your Flex does need its battery to be disconnected while you are flat towing. I'll list out all the parts you need to make ordering easier:
- Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-524435-5
- Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-676
- Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-152
- Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251
- Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch # RM-766
That will be all the parts necessary to flat tow your '19 Flex; the wiring is a 4-diode kit, which is all you need since your Flex has a combined lighting system (your brake lights and turn signals are on the same wire). As for the Nighthawk tow bar, it will easily connect to the base plates, and comes with safety cables, the connector that plugs into your Flex and motorhome, as well as the socket for your Flex.
The Demco SBS braking system is a great choice as it supplies the smoothest braking due to it being a proportional system (brakes with the same power as your motorhome), and while the battery disconnect is not technically a requirement, it allows you to disconnect the battery with just the push of a button instead of having to manually disconnect and reconnect the battery cables, so it's definitely recommended.
