What To Do When There Is No VIN On A Trailer

I have a enclosed trailer and the previous owner had the tongue replace now the vin number isn’t on it how can I get a vin number to put on it

Helpful Expert Reply:
If the VIN was removed, you do have a couple options.
First, check any documentation you received with the trailer, especially if any registration or title/bill of sale type paperwork was included. If there isn't anything like this or there is no VIN information on it, I would get in touch with the previous owner. They will have had to register it at some point and should be able to get the number for you.
However, if you cannot get ahold of them or they no longer have any paperwork, the only other option will be to have a new VIN assigned from the DMV. This process varies a bit from state to state, so you'll have to check with your local DMV for the exact process in your area.
