Adding a 7-Way Trailer Connector to a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Question:
Let me start by saying Im confidently comfortable when it comes to a lot of things, but have little or no experience when it comes to auto wiring. That said, I have a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited w/ tow package. The package includes a 4 pin flat plug next to the hitch. We are purchasing a Tear Trailer that requires a 7 pin connection at the hitch in order to charge the battery on the trailer. The trailer dealer wants $300 to install an adapter. Considering it looks like the part costs about $25, I think that is a bit steep. Can you tell me what part is needed to accomplish the task? And, how difficult would it be to install the additional wiring needed?

If your 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited came with a 4-Way you will need to use 4 and 7 way installation kit # ETBC7. This is a hardwire installation but it does come with everything you will need for the installation. I have included some links that will explain the ETBC7 installation for you.
If the trailer also has electric brakes you will need a brake controller to operate them. The ETBC7 comes with the wiring needed to install a brake controller but the controller itself is sold separately. I recommend the P2 # 90885. It is easy to set up, easy to use, and it is reliable.
