Recommended Replacement Tongue Jack For Additional Ground Clearance On Angle Iron Trailer Frame

Question:

I had a strange incident towing my small homemade camping trailer. The jack hit a rail on a cattle guard and broke the hitch pin, causing the trailer to come loose and drag on the jack, bending it. Thankfully the chains held and that someone stopped who happened to have an extra pin. I thought to change the jack to a fold away so I have more clearance. My trailer frame is an L shaped angle iron. Will a bolt on one work? I really dont want something that needs welding. The trailer is lightweight, only 4x4foot box.

For the etrailer Round, Snap-Ring Swivel Jack #TJBB-2001-B to fit properly on your homemade camping trailer the frame will need to be boxed. This would require having additional frame material welded where you intend to mount the new jack.

I recommend installing the Ultimate Trailer Jack # 322-RDJ-2K in your A-frame mount. This jack assembly can be raised to 1-3/4" with the jack retracted and moved to its lowest setting. The jack can then be adjusted in 2" increments up to 12" and raised up to an additional 15-1/2" with the crank handle.
