What is the 5th Wheel Towing Capacity 2016 GMC 2500 HD
Question:
I have a 2500 HD GMC with with a 6.6 liter Duramax, Crew Cab,, standard 6-6 box, 3.73 axle. It is not a dually. I installed BandW under bed goose neck hitch to work with my Anderson above bed hitch. What is the maximum king pin weight and maximum trailer weight I can pull? The sticker on my truck states the maximum payload is 2,378 lb and maximum fifth wheel is 13,900 lb. Assume passengers and truck cargo at 700 lb. We have looked at the following rigs: Alpine 3220 RL, GVWR 15,500 lb, UVW 12,540 lb, hitch 2,470 lb Solitude C Class 2930 RL, GVWR 15,000 lb, UVW 11,800 lb, hitch 2,174 lb Reflection 337RL, GVWR 13,995 lb, UVW 10,697 lb, hitch 2,090 lb Reflection 303RL, GVWR 11,995 lb, UVW 9,694 lb, hitch 1,796 lb. Cougar 290RLS, GVWR 12,200 lb, UVW 9,981 lb, hitch 1,805 lb. Cougar 302RLS, GVWR 12,160 lb, UVW 10 225 lb, hitch 1,765 lb. The Alpine and Solitude appear too big. What about the rest?? Is there any upgrades that will help?

Helpful Expert Reply:
The maximum fifth wheel trailer weight your GMC 2500 HD can tow is 18,000 lbs. The maximum kingpin weight will be 3000 lbs. With those towing capacities, the trailers you listed will be under your rated towing capacity. Keep in mind that your cab and cargo weight of 700 lbs needs to be considered when deciding on a trailer.
You can add parts to try and increase the towing capacity but you really can't accomplish it 100%.
I recommend the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - Dual Jaw - 20,000 lbs
# BWRVK3400-5W for a 5th wheel hitch. This hitch has one dual inch thick jaws that wrap completely round your kingpin, giving you great jaw to kingpin contact.
