So long as you have the manual transmission on your 2016 Mini Cooper, flat towing is possible with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. There are a number of parts you will need in order to flat tow your Mini, which I'll list out for you:
- Base Plate Kit: Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1312
- Tow Bar: Curt Rambler Steel Tow Bar for Curt and Blue Ox Base Plates # C26FR
- Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154
- Supplemental Braking System: Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # DM86VR
The Blue Ox Base Plates are great because they have removable arms which means your Mini is going to keep its clean look when it isn't being towed. I really like the Rambler tow bar because it has long arms which make it easier to maneuver when towing, is lightweight and easy to use, priced more economically than similar options, and comes with integrated safety cables so you won't have to purchase them separately.
The Roadmaster wiring kit is a diode kit, which means designed to prevent any type of electrical feedback to keep your Mini's electrical system safe. For the braking system, the Stay-IN-Play DUO is the best option because it is a one-time install which will never require any type of removal or reactivation, and gives you braking proportional to that of your motorhome. This results in much smoother braking than most systems which send out a pre-set amount of braking power and thus are more rigid.
I have added links below to some video reviews for you to check out as well if you'd like to take a look.
