Recommended Hitch for 2018 Keystone Cougar 359MBI with Factory Rear Cargo Carrier
Question:
I would like to replace my existing fifth wheel 2018 Keystone Cougar 359MBI factory cargo carrier with a receive hitch. I would like to use the new hitch to support a swagman escapee bike rack. Is there a receiver hitch conversion that allows the existing factory mounts for the factory cargo carrier to support installation of a new 2” receiver hitch?

I have a solution for you, but I'm not aware of any way to convert a Keystone factory cargo carrier into a hitch receiver. However, you can use a universal hitch like the Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs, 22" to 72" Wide # 13703 on your 2018 Keystone Cougar 359MBI to add a 2" receiver with a 350-lbs tongue weight capacity, so it's perfect for a Swagman Escapee.
The Curt # 13703 can be bolted or welded onto box frame, C-channel frame, or I-beam frame trailers where the side frame stanchions are between 22" and 72" apart. It's likely that the factory cargo carrier is bolted to the frame and will likely be removed, but depending on how it was mounted you may be able to use some of the existing holes on the frame.
If you measure the distance between the frame stanchions and find that you've got more than 72" please let me know and I'm happy to see if there is an alternate solution for you. I've also linked a review and installation video of this hitch for you to check out.
