What Options Do I Have for a Mounting a Cargo Box and a Basket at the Same Time on My 2020 4Runner?
Question:
My 4Runner has adjustible crossbars, so the 22inch spacing for the TRX34FR will work, but Ive got roof basket mounted with inside dimensions of only: Length: 49 inches Width 33 1/2. Doesnt look like I can mount the Trunx TRX34FR without uninstalling the roof basketunless you have a solution thatll let me incorporate both. Id go for an roof cargo box thats shorter if I can plop it into the roof basket and safely mount it, but I need a height of 17 1/2 inches, minimum inside height dimension of roof cargo box to be able to stash my Yeti Roadie uprightstanding up so it doesnt leak. I need a cargo box thats a minimum of 17 1/2 inches high, 16 inches wide, and 38 inches long. Objective: Stash frozen food and dry goods on roof of truck, away from bears, safely mounted in my existing roof basket.

I have a solution for you. Unfortunately, we do not currently carry crossbars that are long enough that are recommended for your 2020 Toyota 4Runner that will let you attach the Trunx Rooftop Cargo Box - 18 cu ft - Black # TRX34FR along with your 33-1/2 inch long x 49 inch wide cargo basket. Also, we currently do not carry any hard cargo boxes that will allow you to safely attach it to your basket. With that being said, if you remove your cargo basket, the Trunx cargo box will fit your factory crossbars as long as the crossbars do not exceed 3-3/4 inches wide x 1-3/16 inches tall. In order to confirm the fit, I recommend measuring your crossbars.
However, one possible solution that will let you carry the cargo basket on the roof is a hitch cargo carrier like the GearDeck 17 Enclosed Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches - Slide Out - 17 cu ft - Black # H00604. The GearDeck 17 has internal dimensions of 46-1/2 inches long x 24 inches wide x 25 inches tall. If you go with the GearDeck 17, you will need the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit # 119250KIT (if your 4Runner does not have a factory 7-way connector) or the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C55384 (if your 4Runner has a 7-way connector). The GearDeck 17 will fit into your vehicle's factory 2-inch hitch receiver.
Another possible solution involves purchasing an enclosed cargo bag for your basket. For this route, I recommend the Thule Interstate Rooftop Cargo Bag - Water Resistant - 16 cu ft # TH869. The Interstate has dimensions of 40 inches long x 38 inches wide x 18 inches tall. In addition, the enclosed bag has a 3-sided zipper with coating that provides easy access to the bag and helps keep your gear safe and dry.
