Adding In-Bed 5th Wheel Trailer Wiring on a 2005 Ford F-150 with Factory 4-Way
Question:
This 150 has an aftermarket cooling system with the 4 blade hookup. What do I have to have to hook up my 5th wheel trailer?

On your 2005 Ford F-150 with the 4-Way trailer wiring harness, if the harness is from the factory it will be fairly easy to add in-bed 5th wheel trailer wiring. Here is what you need to do.
First, follow the factory 4-Way wiring forward on the under side of the truck until you find the connector it plugs into. The forward side of this connection point has more wires running into it then go out to the 4-Way. Using a circuit tester like # 3808, find the functions of each of the wires on the forward side plug.
You can then use # 7-Way Pre-Wired Car Connector, 7' Lead # 20023 and splice its wires into the wires on the truck. On this connector, the yellow wire is for reverse lights, green is tail lights, brown is right turn and stop, blue is electric brakes, black is 12 volt battery power, red is left turn and stop lights, and white is ground.
You will need to drill a hole in the bed side where you want the connector to be. Feed it through the hole to the underside of the truck and mount the connector end in the hole.
The other option is to use connector # 37185 and follow the FAQ article I have linked to install it. Then you can use # 20027 which will plug into the 7-Way and acts basically like an extension.
To operate the electric trailer brakes on the trailer, if present, you will also need a brake controller and wiring harness. For a brake controller I recommend the P2, # 90885. It is easy to set up, easy to use, and is very reliable. For a harness you will need # 3035-P
