Troubleshooting Brake Controller that Locks Brakes Up When Brakes are Touched
Question:
I have been using this controller for several years but recentlythis weekon taking the tt out, when I press on the brake, the trailer brakes grab badly. I have moved the sync to nearest driver and control to far right. Does not change anything. Do I need a new controller5100 or do I need to pull the hubs and check if anything is on the brake shoes? Previously the brakes were working well. Your help needed. Thanks,.

Most likely the stop/turn circuit of your trailer wiring is shorting out to the brake output circuit which is causing the problem you are describing of the brakes wanting to lock up as soon as the pedal is pressed. You can test this pretty easily by putting on a blinker and if the brakes pulse with either side that would confirm it and it would be a matter of finding the exposed wire between the two circuits and insulating them better.
If not then yes it would be time for a new brake controller which the Brake EVN # TK63VR would be a great option that's very reliable and brakes smoother and proportionate to how hard you apply the vehicle brakes.
