Need a Platform Style Bike Rack for Travel Trailer to Haul Heavy Bike
Question:
I have a Rockwood Mini Light Trailer and got a bumper hitch receptacle a while ago. Im wondering if it will be strong enough to support a platform bike rack holding a Rad Rover which is about 65 pounds? What if any platform rack would you recommend? Best Value?

We do not currently have available a platform style bike rack that is rated for being used on a travel trailer. Due to suspension design, there is a rougher ride with travel trailers than passenger vehicles that have better developed suspension systems. Add to this the fact that travel trailers are towed, allowing sway from connection point, you need a more durable bike rack to withstand the torque and movement applied when loaded with a bike(s).
There is a fairly wide selection of bike racks rated for motorhomes, 5th Wheel RV's, and travel trailers, such as the Swagman Traveler XC2 Bike Rack for 2 Bikes, # S64663 and the always popular Swagman Original - 4 Bike Rack for 2" Trailer Hitches, # S64400. However, there are currently no platform style bike racks available that meet that rating for bumper pull style travel trailers.
If you want to carry your RadRover Power Bike that is about 65 lbs. or more on the back of your Rockwood Mini Light Trailer, I suggest you consider the Lippert Components Flip Down Slotted Bike Rack Tailgate Storage System, # LC243621. Mount this to the back of your travel trailer using Installation Hardware, # LC373965. This flips up/down as needed and provides up to 250 lb. capacity for not only your bike but other cargo as well.
If you prefer a bike rack that will connect to the bolt-on hitch you already purchased, I suggest first you check with manufacturer on what rating the bumper has then check the rated tongue weight of the bolt-on hitch receiver you purchased. For example, the Stromberg Carlson 2" Hitch Receiver for 4"x4" and 4"x4-1/2" RV Bumpers, # BA-100, has a TW 200 lbs. while the Ultra-Fab, # UF35-946402 has a TW of 350lbs.. For safe practice, please verify the rating of yours prior to attaching a bike rack, cargo carrier or other accessory.
I have attached links to product review and installation videos of items listed above. Happy Camping!
