Weight Distribution and Adjustable Ball Mount with 5 Inches of Drop for a 2011 Dodge Ram 2500

Question:

I have a 2011 dodge 2500 pickup with a 2inch receiver, which is approximately 21inch off the ground. One of my trailers is a 7k dual axle flat bed. The tongue is about 16inch off the ground, when level. When I tow with my existing ball mounts, the trailer is out of level and the top of the shackle straps on the rear axle bind on the frame. Is there a drop available to get my ball down the 5 + inches needed to tow my trailer level and, if so, is it available in a weight distributing hitch? The s I currently have only the ball about 1-2, even though the shank is 8inch long. Thank you.

There are plenty of weight distribution shanks that have the drop you will need. I have included a link to the main page for you. If you already have a weight distribution system then I would need to know the brand you have to determine which shank would work best.

Or for a weight distribution system you could use # RP66542 and then use shank # RP63971 that has a max drop of 6-1/2 inches. This system is rated for 600 to 1,200 pounds tongue weight the the trailer is loaded and ready to tow. A gross trailer weight of 7K would have a tongue weight of approximately 700 to 1,050 pounds. If your tongue weight is different, let me know what it is when loaded and ready to tow and I can recommend the best system. I have linked our FAQ on weight distribution for you.

Or if you can use an adjustable ball mount we have the super awesome Curt tri-ball adjustable ball mount # D900 that has 3 balls and a drop up to 5-3/4 inches. This is great for towing multiple trailers.
