Saris Freedom 4 Bike vs. Thule Apex XT 4 Bike Rack

Question:

Hello Experts! I know I am comparing apples and oranges here with one platform style rack vs. another one is hanging rack. I like the idea of platform rack however, the pure size and weight of something like Thule T2 Classic for 4 bikes is a bit much. I thought I was all set on going with Thule Apex XT. Right about then I came across Saris Freedom 4-Bike Rack. It seems much smaller profile compared to some of the other platform racks. Looking for some help making a decision between Saris Freedom and Thule Apex XT for a 4-bike rack. A few things to note: - We have decent bikes however, nothing super expensive/fiber framed. - Well be loading up 3 adult + 1 child bike now and in 3-4 years all 4 bikes will be adult bikes. - I like the solid support/stability/ease-of-use i.e getting bikes on / off the rack of the platform racks. However, not a huge fan of that massive sized platform rack making it harder to attach it on/off to the hitch. Is Saris Freedom a good compromise? Or should I just stay with Thule Apex XT? Thank you!!!

The size and weight of 4 bikes is normally quite a lot to deal...especially if you want the convenience of a platform rack. The Saris Freedom part # SA4414B however is a great compromise as it is relatively lower weight and not nearly as large. It's only about 10 lbs heavier than the Thule Apex part # TH9025XT and since you want solid support and ease of use overall the Saris is the way to go.
