Will the Kuat Transfer V2 # KU84FR and 2 Bikes Work on a Curt Hitch # C11192 for a 2012 Audi A3?
Question:
Hello. I have a 2012 Audi A3 sportback TDI. I am planning to get the Kuat Transfer V2 two bike carrier with 2inch hitch size. For my vehicle, it looks like only a 1.25inch trailer hitch is available. Would it work if I got an adapter I understand it cuts the tongue weight by 50? The two bikes I plan to carry both have a combined weight of 70 pounds. Thank you.

I have a great solution for you. You are correct in saying that etrailer only carries the 1-1/4 inch hitch receiver # C11192 for your 2012 Audi A3. With that being said, if you use the Kuat Transfer V2 for 2-inch hitches # KU84FR with a hitch adapter # HTAD, you will decrease the hitch capacity by 50%. If you go along with the Curt hitch # C11192, that means it will be decreased to 1,000 pounds of gross trailer weight and 100 pounds of tongue weight. With your 70 pounds of combined bike weight with the 47 pounds of the carrier weight of the Transfer V2, that puts the tongue weight at 117 pounds, which is over the maximum tongue capacity when decreased by 50%.
As a solution, I recommend purchasing the Kuat Transfer V2 that is compatible with 1-1/4 hitches and 2-inch hitches # KU74FR. With this option, you won't have to decrease the hitch capacity of the Curt hitch by 50%. Your maximum tongue capacity on the hitch will remain at 200 pounds which will allow you to have 117 pounds of weight on your hitch.
